DESCRIPTION:Fees: $1050.00 includes course instruction\, books and certification. \n5-Day Wilderness First Responder (WFR) is the definitive course in medical training for outdoor educators\, guides\, SAR team members\, and others who work or play in remote areas. The curriculum is comprehensive and practical\, including all of the essential principles and skills required to assess and manage medical problems in isolated and extreme environments. The 5-day format is for individuals and sponsors with less time available for on-site training and requires 25 hours of pre-course preparation. Students must register at least 2 weeks before the course date. All students must complete all pre-course work prior to arrival on course.  \n \nClass size limited. 70 hours. The following teaching materials are provided by CBO at no additional cost: \n\nWilderness and Rescue Medicine: A guide for the basic and advanced practitioner\nWilderness Medicine Workbook\nThe Field Guide of Wilderness & Rescue Medicine\nWFR Class Notes and handouts\nSOAP Notes\n\nOnce registered\, you will be asked to sign into our Moodle site and fill out a registration form. Once signed in\, you will receive an electronic Wilderness and Rescue Medicine text book in preparation for your online pre-course WFR packet and  test. An additional fee of $100.00 will be charged for those signing up less that 14 days from class start date. DESCRIPTION:Our 16-hour Wilderness First Aid Course is the best and most comprehensive course of its kind to offer relevant and realistic first-aid training for seasonal outdoor activities or short term wilderness endeavors and pursuits. Wilderness First Aid is a two-day introduction to general medical concepts and basic life support skills. It is targeted to the outdoor enthusiast on day trips or short adventures. The course is taught by professional instructors with significant patient care and backcountry experience. \n \nDescription\nCourse Content\nThe expected target audience is seasonal outdoor staff and those involved in recreational wilderness trips. The course content meets the anticipated medical needs of those communities. \nCourse topics are:\nPatient Assessment System; CPR; Circulatory System; Nervous System; Respiratory System; Fractures\, Stable Injuries; Splints 1-Extremities; Hypothermia; Hyperthermia and Heat Illness; Near Drowning; Lightning Injuries; Wounds and Burns; Anaphylaxis; Lifting\, Moving Extrication; Patient Carries; Backcountry Medicine \nCustomization\nPatient assessment drills and simulations will be specific to the group\, the environment\, and the context of operations or the activities performed in the field. \nGiven the short duration of this course\, emphasis is placed on hands-on activities\, including PAS drills as a major learning tool as opposed to long lectures. \nElective topics to specific environments (altitude\, tropical\, SCUBA\, offshore medicine\, etc.) can be added to the WFA course content.
